Honeymoon?

So lately I've been busy researching and researching places to go for our honeymoon. J and I got married this past summer and are planning to go away early next year. Since I started researching places to stay I've been really surprised to see how expensive it is. I've definitely had to lower to expectations, because I have total champagne taste - especially when it comes to this trip. Some of the places that I though were fancy (but didn't expect crazy expensive) were $1000 a NIGHT! Our 10 day honeymoon would end up costing $10,000 just for accommodation. Some of these places weren't even all-inclusive! Wow!


This is the first trip I've ever planned to Mexico and I guess I expected it to be cheaper. Well, actually it is the price I expected it to be, I just didn't want to increase the price in my head whenever I altered our trip. If we were planning to go to Puerto Vallarta or Cabo, it would be what I expected, but instead we're doing Riviera Maya for 10 days, which puts it a bit more expensive. Oh well, a bit of a tighter wallet this winter will make it possible. Hope the family likes wrapped pieces of paper for Christmas (I totally did that when I was younger...for years!) :D


Have you been to the Mayan Riviera? I'd love to hear any recommendations you have for where to stay, eat, see and do :)
